I sold a big part of my Hot Wheels and Matchbox collection today. Can you guess what was the first thing I did after that? I went into three different toy stores looking for more tiny cars. My diecast unboxing stories aren’t going to write themselves!
Now I’m facing a huge dilemma. In an attempt to cut down on costs and save some money for other projects, I told myself I’d stop buying Premium models from now on.
I know how quickly I get carried away, spending as much as $200 a week for items I didn’t even want in the first place.
But someone just listed the Timeless Icons Ferrari F50 for sale on my local group, and I want one badly. However, it’s highly annoying to see he’s charging $20 for it, even if that seems to be the current market value for it.
I’m tempted to message the guy, if only that move wouldn’t then prompt me to buy the 250 GTO next. Oh to hell with all this overthinking, I’m messaging him right now. With any luck, I’ll also have an additional Treasure Hunt-themed story for September. Until then, here are 11 new Hot Wheels collectibles to start hunting for soon.
Pull-Back Speeders

I bought and opened my first-ever Pull-Back Speeders item just a few weeks ago. I couldn’t say no to the Audi Sport quattro S1 E2, not when metal parts and an opening hood were involved. A few days later, some family members came over with their boys and I gave it to them for the evening.
Of course it raced against the Welly Porsche 911 GT3 RS for several hours, I just need to find where both of them are right now. I’m not saying you should go after every single Pull-Back Speeders vehicle on the market, but it’s sure worth having at least one of them at home for some good old fashion fun.
Mix 4 for 2026 is just around the corner and I have photos of the next four items. One of them is a Baja-type truck I can’t clearly identify, and the same goes for the X-Raycers-like fantasy casting that reminds me of the Punk Rod.
The other two items are both Italian machines. Charlie Angulo designed the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, and this is its second variation in two years. It’s a shame we can’t get a view of the engine, and it’s the same situation with the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI. At least the latter is new to the series.

I am not yet 100% sure if Charlie Angulo’s LB-Kaido Works Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R is indeed getting another variation or not. For all I know right now, this could be just a custom design. The wheels are quite confusing, as I can’t remember ever seeing this design before. Rumor has it this variation will be part of a Premium series, but it’s almost as if it could be another Pull-Back Speeders model.
I’m considerably more interested in Ronald Wong’s 1995 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III anyway. It’s his second-ever Mitsubishi casting after the 2005 Lancer Evolution IX Wagon. I would have bought one had it not been “tied” to the Subaru Forester STI which I already had at home. Imagine if this CE9A would get some Initial D/Team Emperor stickers in the near future! I think it’s still a licensing problem for Mattel though, which is sad considering we’ve all had enough of Fast and Furious by now.
The other four pictures of premium models in the gallery might be slightly confusing. They’re all Pop Culture collectibles, and they’re also all Volkswagen Beetles. I can’t remember if this was ever a thing for the El Segundo-based manufacturer but here we are now. I won’t pretend I know anything about Herbie the Love Bug to begin with, but collecting Hot Wheels models works both ways.
Sometimes you buy them because you already know the history, but getting them can also a journey of discovery. I have two questions though. Where’s the fifth car and will it be a Beetle too? And does the arrival of this set mean Mattel plans to revert to the old way of developing the Pop Culture line? It’s something I’ve complained about in the past, and if that comes true I’ll have to break my own promise of pulling the plug on the brand.
Elite 64

We know the Ford Bronco is back in the Red Line Club in a few days, bringing a Chase variation with it. And we’ve also seen the Ferrari F40 teaser by now. What’s up with the Elite 64 line though? The Hauler release might be the best-kept secret for 2026, as I doubt anyone isn’t aware of its sales potential.
But we’re also expecting two more collectibles before December, including a new variation of the Pandem Datsun 280ZX. 2026 is the first year where Elite 64 isn’t all about brand-new castings all the time, and the Datsun is the third item so far to get a second version after the Lamborghini and the Mercedes-Benz.
It doesn’t look quite as good as the first one to me, but I didn’t buy that one either so it doesn’t matter. Let’s face it, everyone will be after Charlie Angulo’s Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6. It makes the Matchbox 2007 Land Rover 6x6 look forgettable by comparison, even if the latter will be starring in a “movie” (cough cough full length commercial).
If my local dealer doesn’t decide to try and get rich with this monster of a pickup truck, I might even order one for a closer look. I just know it won’t fit in my transport case though.
