BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A 57-year-old Tampa man is dead, and a 63-year-old passenger remains in serious condition following a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning at a Hernando County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
State troopers reported that the crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on August 9, 2026, at the intersection of State Road 50 and County Road 581.
According to the official incident report, a 45-year-old man from Brooksville was driving a Jeep Commander eastbound on SR-50 when he failed to stop at a red traffic signal.
The Jeep entered the intersection and collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound on CR-581.

Both vehicles caught fire immediately following the impact.
Emergency crews transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His 63-year-old female passenger, also from Tampa, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Jeep was not injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released the names of those involved, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
